Tits and ass

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 3, 2007, 12:27 AM

  • Reading: The Battle for Spain by Antony Beevor
  • Watching: The land start to green up again
  • Playing: the fool

I've decided, after looking through DA more deeply, that from now on all my artwork is going to be called tits or ass or fetish or naked or something like that and will only contain pictures of naked women.

Call me naive, but, my dog, is that really the best way to get people to look at your art?

Whatever happened to just doing great art and being creative?

That is all. Carry on.

:greetings: there is a bit of a flood of that sort of stuff. Would be all very well if it were at least arty, but it usually isn't, just plain boring. Mind you, I've noticed that not all of those shots actually get a lot of favs. Nice selection of stamps! :D Thanks! :w00t:

Thanks Sally, and I have to totally agree. I have nothing against nudity in art or photography at all, but most of the stuff here is just, as you say, plain boring or at least gratuitious. Kind of like all the anime stuff. Too samey. How many different ways are there to photograph a nipple that are arty? LOL.

The stamps - I've just discovered them. Wish I had earlier. I tell people about the art in real life too, but the stamps are just easy when I'm not around. Great to hear from you. Take care.

 How true. Tits and arse will always sell well. But I agree its boring!
But there is a good core of creatives on dA too as you know I'm sure. So we just need to stand up for each other and spread the word!

I love wearing no pants the same as the next person, but there is a time and place for pants.

The true creatives, and there are quite a few, will always stick with their art. That's what makes DA so cool. I feel a clever new stamp coming on!

oh I am SO with you on this. I am very glad to know I am not the only one thinking this way. Offhandedly (is that a word?), I am going to go with 40% boring, 30% offensive/tasteless, and 30% art worthy. The amount of DD's showing T&A is way, way up. Out of 15 DDs, there are anywhere from 4-7 included. Is this the focus of dA?
With so many other types of arts to showcase, I am insulted. You should write a news article. I'd be interested to see how many thumbs up it gets. Been thinking I maybe will. heh.

Tisk tisk.
Why on earth are you all looking at the front page? It is shit, usually. Only tried it once.
Whats wrong with the community we have created and surrounded ourselves with here. The networking of each other and their faves and watchers and the odd browse for a category is the only way to manage DA. Most of my views have come via people who watch me or watch the favees. Rarely does it come from the front page. However, my clock Cogs image got 25 hits in about 5 seconds! No sex there.
If I want nudity, a browse is a quick way to scan the gratuitous from the art or sensual.
What works best to get your stuff noticed is how good the image looks as a thumbnail. If that doesn't grab the watcher, they don't go any further. That makes it a bit tough to get some things noticed if their content is reliant on the detail.
And its about timing too.
If I post something during peak times in the US or Europe, mid to late evening, I get a lot more hits.
Tisk tisk.
Should be more arty male nudity, thats what I say!

I guess nudity gets hits. Simple as that. I have no problem whatsoever with nudity or even porn in its place. Hell, the human body can be a beautiful thing. I'm more questioning the reasons why people come to view DA in the first place. Maybe it's just a great place to download free, relatively hi-res pics of naked chicks?
*abatnz:iconabatnz: Sep 3, 2007, 5:22:50 PM
There's a front page? I've got my page bookmarked and go out from there. I'm missing a big part of DA!

I am in no way advocating censorship, getting rid of it or whatever, just cynically deciding to play the game. I have at least half a dozen works directly related to eroticism or sex - so it's obviously something I'm interested in. Maybe i just need to name them more blatantly.

I am also not bemoaning the amount of hits my art gets. I do it for myself first and foremost, if people like it as well that's great. If not, that's great too. If I was that interested I'd do heaps of naked anime girls called Titwillow, Muffy and Asstrata. LOL.

Great points about the thumbnail and timing Sue. There's nothing I can do about the thumbnail thing. With the art up to a metre across a thumbnail is almost incidental, but the timing issue is one I hadn't even considered!

Alastair, just post your art for what it means to you. If its about eroticism or sex, so be it. At worst people will just ignore it. Art is about expressing ourselves about these and other issues. So don't censor yourself, let the community decide.
Its easy to forget with this internet thing that we are antipodean and still need to fall in line with the rest of the world's time line. But the rest of the art community lag behind us when it comes to being unique.
